What to Expect When You Volunteer

Volunteering with the Westhampton Beach Fire Department is a rewarding experience—but it also comes with questions. Below are a few of the things we’re asked most often by prospective members.

Becoming a volunteer doesn’t require a set schedule, but most members spend around seven to eight hours per week training, responding to calls, attending meetings, and helping with equipment and department needs. That said, many members find themselves wanting to give even more—it becomes a rewarding part of your weekly routine.

All training is provided at no cost to you. We cover the expenses for courses, gear, and certifications—ensuring you’re fully prepared and well-equipped to serve alongside our team.

Most new members begin making meaningful contributions early in their journey, sometimes within just a few months. From assisting at scenes to supporting operations and community events, every role matters.
